TISD and Nash citizens mourn the loss of golf coach and local legend Jay Brewer

Everyone who knew him has a positive story about Coach Jay Brewer — a local legend who was also one heck of a nice guy.

Texarkana ISD along with former students and friends in Nash led the mourning with a heartfelt message distributed on social media.

"The TISD Tiger Family is mourning the death of one of our co-workers, friend and great Tiger - Jay Brewer, Golf Coach," the district wrote. "His love of students and the game of golf will always be remembered."

TISD then quoted another famous coach, John Wooden: “A Good Coach can Change a Game, a GREAT Coach can Change a Life,” Wooden famously said.

The district said: "Coach Brewer changed the lives and the direction of many of our students – all for the best. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed."

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 8 at 2 pm in the Chapelwood Memorial Gardens (South Pavillion). Online tributes can be made by clicking here.

On Facebook, former principal Donna McDaniel gave a glowing tribute to the coach: "As his principal for four years, I can say he did love talking about the success of his students and golf," McDaniel said. "He was a really good coach. One of the good guys. Both my boys loved him. He will be missed. May God be with his family, loved ones and students."

Coach Brewer was indeed one of the good guys. He will be sorely missed.
